Ash’s blood cancer treatment was keeping him alive, but it was making him suffer.
Will you help fund vital research, into making treatment less traumatic?
The first thing you’d notice about Ash is his bright, beautiful smile.
But when he stopped being his normal happy self, his mum knew something was wrong. And her worst fears were confirmed when she took him to Queensland Children’s Hospital.
Ash was diagnosed with blood cancer and he faced a long, scary journey.
Please will you make a gift today and help make life saving treatment less traumatic for kids like Ash?
Your donation will be matched dollar for dollar, until 30 June thanks to our generous partners at the Queensland Government.
Ash’s story
Ash was covered in bruises. He was too weak to even move.
The team did everything possible to make Ash’s chemotherapy treatment as comfortable as possible, but he had the most severe side effects.
Ash lost his hair. He was covered in bruises. He would get so tired and weak that he could barely muster a smile – never mind have a normal, happy childhood.
It doesn’t seem right for children to have to lose their childhood – and for parents to have to watch their precious little children suffer – just to stay alive.
Researchers are examining how to treat the painful side effects of chemotherapy – including the weakness and sickness that took away Ash’s childhood and could still threaten his future.
For a long time, these side effects were thought to be unavoidable – a direct result of how the chemotherapy attacks cancer cells so effectively.
But now researchers are exploring the very real possibility of treating or even preventing the painful and traumatic side effects of chemotherapy, without losing any of the effectiveness it provides.
But it can be different. And you can be the difference every kid deserves.
Your support could help fund this crucial research project into preventing the harmful side effects of chemotherapy and make the hospital a happier place for children.
We need to raise $350,000 by 30 June, so any gift will make a difference. Your support could help fund this crucial research project into preventing harmful side effects of chemotherapy and make the hospital a happier place for children.
You can make sure kids like Ash don’t have to lose their childhood, just to get the treatment that saves their lives. Please give now, to get little faces smiling again.
“It was the repeated trauma, for him and for me. Seeing your precious child going through pain, over and over for months and months and there's nothing you can do about it.”
